Mangalore, Oct 31: President of the local chapter of the People's Union for Civil Liberties P B D'Sa has demanded for the immediate suspension of Shivaprakash, sub-inspector of police attached to Ullal police station, for booking a youth named Kabir on false charges to settle personal scores and beating him up badly.

Speaking at a press conference convened here on Thursday October 30, he wanted criminal cases to be booked against the policemen involved and also payment of compensation to the harassed youngster.

Kabir, who was present at the press conference, said that he was arrested by Shivaprakash purely for personal vendetta. He had filed cases against Shvaprakash and circle inspector Jayant V Shetty in a city court on August 14 this year and the case is being heard at the first additional chief judicial magistrate court here, Kabir added. "Shivaprakash, angered over this development, wanted to teach me a lesson. He arrested me on false charges, booked me under frivolous case and tortured me," he alleged.

Kabir said that the arrest was violative of the Supreme Court directives and against the international covenant on human rights, 1948.
