Mangalore, Oct 30: The ‘Mulgeni Okkalu Raksana Vedike’, has urged the state government to bring in legislation rescinding Mulgeni tenancy system in coastal Karnataka.

Addressing the gathering at a public awareness meeting held at S D M Law College Meeting Hall recently, Vedike working president Dharmesdra K and Joseph Saldanha said the problem of the Mulgeni tenancy system was limited to the coastal districts. Even the Land Reforms Act did not cover mulgeni properties.

They opined that legislators from other parts of Karnataka cannot understand the gravity of the problem. The issue has been discussed several times in the legislature. ‘The state government should initiate steps to solve the problem immediately. Otherwise, the Vedike will intensify the struggle’, they cautioned. Extending support to the Vedike’s movement, MLA Ramanath Rai reiterated these views.
