As I have stated in many of my earlier mails to you,I travel every weekend to Mangalore visiting my family there. And every weekend I face one problem or the other and mostly on the Shiradi ghat. And incidentally most of the problems on the whole stretch is caused by KSRTC bus drivers. Last week a truck carrying rice had overturned on a bridge and there was a beeline block from both the sides. When a few of us went to investigate what had happened we saw that the vehicles could move again if we removed a tyre from the overturned truck and if we put some stones on the road to level it so the vehicles passing by would not touch the fallen truck.

It was also mutually decided that 4 vehicles from both the sides would be allowed and everything was running smooth until a KSRTC bus came from nowhere again blocking the road. The only thing that saved the driver of the KSRTC bus from being beaten up by the crowd there is that he did not get down from the bus.

Still instead of apologising he was rude, his body language was threatening and his language was not the one anyone would like to hear.If not the crowd there he would not budge from there. This is just a one of incident. But the way these people drive endangering human lives and the way they react when someone raises a voice to comdemn the way they drive, is absurb.

Sometimes we feel if having these drivers on the road is a safe bet. But end of the day who is to blame. Is it the drivers or the road or the people responsible to ensure better roads or is it the entire system. Or is it we the people who do not have the courage to come down to the streets to bring about a change.

We choose not to fight because we think the fight is not our's. We dont think of how effective an added voice against these atrocrities will matter. Comeone people sit back and think, are we really FREE???? Do we really CARE???
