Bangalore: Five Students-turned-robbers held

Bangalore, Oct 24: The rural district policemen have cracked several cases of highway robbery. They have arrested a gang of five students, who used to offer lifts to stranded passengers and rob them of valuables and Cash. Jewellery, mobile phones and cash were recovered from the possession of the gang.

The arrested students have been identified as Lokesh, Bharat, Anand, Srinivas and Jayaram, aged around 20 years and residents of Nelamangala near here. The policemen have also seized a maxi-cab and weapons the gang used to threaten the unwilling passengers. All the five are students of Industrial Training Institute in Nelamangala, the policemen have informed.

A special investigating team formed by the Bangalore rural police succeeded in zeroing on the gang. The police had received several complaints about a maxi-cab-borne gang which used to pick up passengers on the Bangalore-Tumkur road at night and relieved them of valuables at knife-point. Normally, the passengers were driven to some remote corners before the gang snatched valuables from them.
