Mangalore: Mercury Dips as Evening Showers Drench City

Mangalore, Oct 24: Both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts received light drizzle throughout the evening and till late night on Thursday October 23. As dark clouds covered the horizon since the afternoon, both the districts experienced darkness since early evening.

Kundapur and Karkala taluks in Udupi district as well as Beltangady and Sullia taluks of the DK district received heavy rains since the afternoon.  The city however, got light but continuous drizzle since around 7 pm. Subrahmanya got torrential rains.

As a result, standing crops of various regions got inundated. Two women and four children from Kallabettu Neeralke near Mooodbidri were violently shaken by the electric current of the lightning in the evening on Thursday. The affected persons have been identified as Ramlat (35) and her three children, her neighbourer Bifathima (50) and Sumaiya (13), another girl in the neighbourhood. Tiles of several houses were blown away by winds and power connection got severed in many rural belts.
