Kundapur, Oct 24: Sports and games contribute to the improvement of the personality of students. They keep us fit physically and mentally as well. More than anything else, they make us sober and disciplined in life, said Dr H Shantaram, administrative officer of Manipal Academy of General Education.

He was speaking on the occasion of the inaugural function of the inter-collegiate basket ball tournament being held in Bhandarkar’s College. He urged the students to actively participate in the extra-curricular activities of the college including sports and games. He also noted, that schools and colleges alone provide opportunities for competing in games such as basket ball.



Dr Nagalingappa, director of physical education, Mangalore University, presided over the function. College principal Prof Sulugodu Narayana Rao welcomed the gathering. The physical education director of the college delivered introductory address.

Among those present were the principal of the pre-university college  G M Gonda and the physical education director Mamata. Ritesh proposed vote of thanks and Sandesh monitored the programme.
