Udupi: ‘Madhav Anant Jodukere Kambla’ to be Revived in Manipal after 30 Years

The ‘Madhav Anant Jodukere Kambla’ will be held at Prasanna Ganapati in Manipal on Sunday November 30, after a gap of three decades, announced Belipady Hariprasad Rai, executive president, Kambla committee, in a press conference held here on Thursday October 23.
 
The last Kambla was held in 1978–79 as part of the 80th birthday celebrations of Dr T M A Pai, he added. Sixty pairs of buffaloes will compete in the various Kambla catehories such as ‘Kanahalage’, ‘Adda Halage’, ‘Hagga Hiriya and Kiriya’, ‘Negilu Hiriya and Kiriya’. Owners of the winning buffalo pair will be awarded a gold trophy, informed Rai.
 
Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade will be felicitated on the same occasion. Eminent religious leaders, ministers, and movie actors from Bollywood and sandalwood are expected to attend the event.
 
The country boat competition at Mannupalla Lake, an exhibition of rare folk artifacts, a display of coastal varieties of roosters, varied Tulunadu cuisine, and various folk sports will also entertain visitors to the Kambala.  Seating arrangements will be made at the venue for an audience of 30,000. 
 
The Kambla committee is led by honorary president Dr V S Acharya, Dr Ramadas Pai, and K Amarnath Shetty with Mijarguttu Anand Alva, T Ashok Pai, T Satish Pai, K Jayavarma Ballal, Dr Jeevandar Ballal, Dr M Mohan Alva, Jayaraj Hegde, Shantaram Shetty Barkoor, and Rohit Hegde Yermal, as advisors.
 
Former Lions Club district governor and Kambla committee general secretary Suresh Shetty, was present at the press meet.
