Udupi, Oct 21: A gang had assaulted a man who questioned them for pasting posters at Malpe on the night of Sunday October 19. On Moday, a gang attacked the first gang, in an act of revenge for the Sunday assault.

Several members from both the gangs were admitted into Ajjarkad district government hospital for treatment. As more than a hundred people gathered at the hospital premises from both sides on Monday October 20, the situation turned tense.

The group of about ten men including Sahid, Hanif, Nayeem, Samad, Mubarak and others, who are said to have been pasting some wall posters related to Karnataka Forum for Dignity, assaulted Rajesh, a fishing worker, who was returning home, when he questioned them.

In retaliation, Yogeesh, Manju, Mithun, Rajesh, Kiran and Karna, supported by some others, reportedly assaulted Arif, Habeeb and Sadiq on Monday October 20.

In connection with these scuffles, Rajesh, Arif, Habeeb and Sadiq were admitted to Ajjarakad district government hospital for treatment.

The police dispersed the mob and controlled the situation. On the basis of complaints filed by both the sides, Malpe police have registered a case. Investigations are on.
