Bantwal: Sandalwood Smugglers Held

Bantwal, Oct 18: In a join operation, the Uppinangadi and Bantwal town policemen intercepted a Scorpio vehicle and seized sandalwood pieces and splinters, core and the jeep on Thursday October 16.

The arrested accused have been identified as Akmal from Moodigere and Asif, a resident of Kasargod Nayanmarmoole. The Uppinangadi police, based on reliable information, had tried to stop the vehicle. As the vehicle sped away, they informed the Bantwal police, who tried to stop it at the toll gate. Here too, the accused tried to flee at high speed but the policemen chased the vehicle. As the vehicle developed problems and stopped near Baddakatte, the accused could not escape.

The vehicle had 70 kg of sandlwood, sandalwood splinters packed in four gunny bags apart from core of the sandalwood tree.

Uppinangadi sub-inspector of polilce Nagesh Kadri, Bantwal town police station sub-inspector Madhav Koodlu and staff took part in th operation.
