Mangalore: 12 More Roads to be Concreted in City

Mangalore, Oct 17: Mangalore City Corporation will concrete 12 more roads by utilising 50 per cent of the Rs. 100-crore special grant announced in the 2008-09 State Budget.

According to Sameer Shukla, commissioner of the corporation, the 12 roads will be concreted at an estimated cost of Rs. 46.88 crore. The remaining Rs. 2.12 crore would be kept aside for related activities such as shifting of pipelines and telephone cables.

The corporation has earmarked Rs. 1 crore for computerising its routine activities and developing a software to improve the efficiency of administration, he told The Hindu.

“We have identified the roads for concreting with Rs. 50 crore, expected as the first instalment of the special grants promised by the Government. We have prepared a draft plan in this regard,” he said. The commissioner said that the corporation was yet to get administrative and technical approvals from the Government to the plan. Corporation would invite bids once the Government approved it. Roads identified and estimated funds-allocation for concrete them are: Falnir Road (Rs. 7.07 crore); Shakthinagar Main Road (Rs. 3 crore); Bunts Hostel-Kadri Road (Rs.4.75 crore); Kadri-Lower Bendoorwell Road (Rs. 4.75 crore); KSRTC bus-stand to Kuntikana Junction Road (Rs. 6.43 crore); Kuntikana to Kavoor Road (up to the entry to Land Links) (Rs. 2 crore); Karangalpady to Bejai Church Hall Road (Rs. 3.29 crore); Hamilton Circle to Rao and Rao Circle road (Rs. 3.79 crore); Mission Street to Rao and Rao Circle road (Rs. 1.38 crore); Kulai-Kana Road (Rs. 4 crore); Shamsuddin Circle, Surathkal to railway level- crossing road (Rs. 4.28 crore); and Hosabettu-Baikampady Road (Rs. 2.14 crore).
