Karkala, Oct 16: By-election was held for the posts of the president and vice-president of Durg gram panchayat, coming under Karkala assembly constituency, recently.
Congress candidate K Krishna was elected as the president, while Gunavati from the same party became the vice-president. In the last election, the Congress had won seven seats and BJP two. Tahsildar Lakshman Singh acted as the returning officer.
Gram panchayat member M S Tanvir, Rajesh Shetty, Padmavati, Narayana Gokhale and others were present.
