Udupi, Oct 16:
The third annual day of Manipal University was held at KMC Greens open grounds on Wednesday October 15. Leon Errol Cort, finance minister, Antigua Barbuda, was the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that third world countries are not responsible for the global economic crisis. The ill-devised economic policies of developed nations are solely responsible for this turmoil, he alleged.

The governments of developing countries face the challenge of maintaining liquidity during recession. The global turmoil can be effectively combated with the joint effort of the government and financial institutions, added Cort. Manipal University vice-chancellor Dr Rajashekaran Warrier presided over the programme and pro-chancellor H S Ballal was also present.

Dr Chandrashekar, course director of physiology and neuro-sciences, welcomed the gathering.  Dr Poornima Baliga, dean of KMC International Centre, presented the annual report.  Dr Mamata Ballal, course director of immunology and microbiology, introduced the guests.  Sitaram M Bhat, course director of anatomy and cell biology, proposed the vote of thanks.

American University of Antigua School of Medicines president Dr Neil Simon, and Manipal University International Programmes registrar Dr Vinod Bhat, were present on the dais.
