Jalandhar: NRI Wife Paraded Naked for Calling Painter Over

I P Singh/TNN

Jalandhar, Oct 15:
In a shocking and brutal retribution for being "seen" with a man, a 30-year-old wife of an NRI was allegedly paraded naked in front of her children, mother-in-law and relatives as a bunch of angry villagers cheered on while some also recorded it on video.

The woman, in a complaint filed with police on Tuesday, said she had merely called a painter to her house as it was the festive season and she wanted a whitewash done. "But the sarpanch and some other villagers barged into my house and not only beat me up but also captured my image on their cellphones as they paraded me naked in front of my two children and relatives," the resident of Atta said.

Sarpanch Lakhbir Kumar is known to her and a few are even related to her. Dismissing her allegations, he said he played moral police and said a villager had seen her through "a cracked window" in a compromising position with the painter.

I think this ladys huband must support her. Atleast he should be by her side so that the public will take interest in her and fight against this crack sarpanch. There is no need to call for the police or any judge to deal with this type of case it should be public who should treat the sarpanch in a same way.

First of all Thanks to Daijiworld for this news. Its really shocking news. I will surely pass it on to higher officials (my friends) and to Human Rights Commission. Where are the so called Human Rights people or activities? Where are the show off people who give big speech on TV Channels and in Newspapers just for the publicity? Are they not aware of this? If i was the Police Inspector in that area (Village), then i could have paraded that idiot village surpanch and so called other Mard (Male?) in front of all people and also aeroplane travel and chapati making for their cunning activity. Are they real male people? Idiots. It’s mentioned in our Indian History that we should respect Females. It’s mentioned that, "Yatra Naryantu Poojyate, Tatra Ramante Devataha", it means, "The place where females are respected, God also will be there".

This type of cruelty should be handled by CBI officials. Not by an ordinary people. I don’t know when these narrow minded so called senior elder idiot people will be alright. Shame on them. Shame on their entire family. These people are destroying our national image in the international market. All these people should be thrown out of India, and should be sent to Andaman for "Saja E Kalapani".

I say 'hats off' to Mr. Walter Saldanha of Mangalore. Mr. Saldanha asks if at all there had to be a punishment, why was she alone punished ? Why wasn't the man involved too given the same treatment ?

Well, culture, respect does not prevail with just women behaving according to it, men too need to involve themselves into it. Men are not superior that they get hold anybody, give verdict and punish. There is a law, we all are expected to abide by it. I thank you all who sympathize with the woman - I am sure the Sarpanch will now be brought to the books !

I feel people invloved in this in human act need to rethink what they would go through if their wives/daugther/mother/sister's were paraded naked along the village. I feel people there are sitting home with no job and this is their sole entertainment (Entertainment should not be on some others cost)

I just question the role of the sarpanch? Why do villages have sarpanch, is it to outrage the modesty of women or to safeguard them. A sarpanch who has taken the law in his hands is not fit to be a sarpanch. There should have been a panchayat. The 5 panch,s should have given a chance to hear the woman, then the panchayat should have decided the punishmnet.

Parading a woman naked is a crime against all women, or rather against the humanity. No sarpanch can decide alone in the village system. Even if the woman was found flirting with the man the punishment is not proportionate to the crime. The woman alone should have been punished, but her children, relatives so much so the whole woman species was punished by this crime. How can the children face the society. this will be a life long wound in them.

The suppressed anger may lead them to commit crimes in the future. The sarpanch is responsible. This is a atrocity against women. My final question- Why the man(painter) was not punished, who is equally responsible in the crime, if there was a crime. This is not a just and fair system, treating women as second class citizens.

This system which is prevalent in some parts of India does not speak of a civilized society. This system needs to be challenged. I hope that the commission for human rights pursues this matter and the guardians of the law punish the guilty so that no other sarpanch will misuse his power.

It is a shame and disgrace brought to this country by this grave deed. The people who call themselves protectors of the law and the Dharma should be severely punished under this case. The inhumane torture given to this lady by the few localities along with the naked parade clearly shows how wicked the mindset of the people has stooped. Why no politician and the protectors of the faith speak up for this lady and uphold the dignity and honour of women in India.

The women’s forum, organizations and the human Right Commission should seriously take up this matter and see that the guilty are punished according to the law. It is high time we stop preaching ahimsa and Dharma and start practicing the same as told by our forefathers and saints. I know for sure that the innocent lady has become the victim of foolish mindset above all this lady will have to knock at justice every time she attends the court, who knows when her trauma and pain will end. Who are these brutal and foolish people now suddenly risen, all over the place to take law into their hands and decide what a person should do.

Now it seems everywhere that the Police who are protectors of the law are mere spectators either to enjoy the scene or to create more commotion. Stop this inhuman fanatics and fundamentalists and save the nation from destruction and disintegration. Let us now all come together as Indians’ and work in the right and sincere spirit towards peace and progress and then there is true sense when we say “asathoma sathgamaya, thamasoma thiergamaya, Mruthoma amritham gamya, om shanthi shanthi shanthi…..!

Why are these outdated Tribunals allowed to continue in this day and age ? Where are our leaders ? Is this jungle law ? This is a horrible crime against a woman. Indeed the women of India should fight tooth-and-nail to eradicate this so-called "Panch" system of old, mostly allowing self-styled "dirty minded evil men" bringing out their personal vendettas and jealousies to harrass the meek and poor people in small Communities. It is the State Government's responsibility to eradicate this inhuman System, and NOW !!If not, moves should be made immediately to move the Central Government to bring legislation that would abolish Tribunals of this sort.
