Mangalore Oct 15: The Dalit empowerment is not mere governmental propaganda, but is a reflection of the political will on the part of the administrators and government servants. Lack of will to properly implement the schemes, results in wasting of funds under the schemes through various means, without benefitting the dalits for whose benefit they were originally planned, said member of CPI (M) Dakshina Kannada district committee Krishnappa Konchady, addressing  the Dalit Empowerment Camp organised by the 18% Scheme Implementation Commitee here, recently.

Delivering a lecture at the camp, state convener of Anti-Castwise Discrimination Committee Maruti Manpade said, that the exploitation of dalits, which started ages ago, is still on. The dalits are kept away from productive activities and ownerships, and hence their development is being retarded, he opined.

Their progress will be possible, only if the dalits are given reservation in the private sector in the present globalised scenario, felt former secretary of DYFI State committee K Mahantesh. In cases of atrocities against the dalits, not even 4% of the victims get justice in the country. People should show organisational commitment to be able to get their rights and justice, he exhorted, speaking at the valedictory programme.

Timmappa Kavoor presided over the programme. Vasudeva J P compered the programme. Assistant convener of the committee Ramesh Adyapadi and Sanjeev Balkur were present.
