Mangalore Oct 14: Successful surgeries were conducted on two children, who were born deaf, at the KMC hospital near Ambedkar Circle in the city recently.

The 'Cochlear Implant' surgery was conducted on the two children, aged three and six years, who were suffering from hearing loss since their birth. The surgery was accomplished by directly stimulating the nerve ends of the hearing organs in the inner ears, through modern instruments and without touching the inner ear.

Dr Sujata Shridharan and Dr Jayashree Bhat explained that the procedure was the best option available for such children to acquire the capacity to hear. They also have suggested to the people suffering from deafness since birth, to undergo this surgery instead of using hearing aids.
