Mangalore: Padma Shri Yusuf Ali Felicitated at Yenepoya College

Mangalore, Oct 14: Yusuf Ali MA, managing director of Emke Group, an NRI institution was felicitated by the Islamic Academy of Education and Yenepoya University at Yenepoya Dental and Medical College Lecture Hall here on Tuesday October 14.

Addressing the gathering, Ali said students are the future of the nation. "It is therefore your bounden duty to raise the dignity of the country. Nowadays communal clashes have been reported from various parts of our country. None of the religion teaches hatred and enmity. All religions spread the message of peace and love.  So need of the hour is to promote harmony and human dignity," he added.

He was conferred the Padma Shri award by the president Pratibha Patil on May 5. He was the first NRI from the Gulf and the Middle East countries to be honoured with Padma Shri award. Ali has also been awarded with Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, Asian Business Leader of the Year, Rajiv Gandhi Award and other prestigious awards.

Y Abdullah Kunchi, chancellor, Yenepoya University, BA Mohiuddin Haji, former minister CM Ibrahim also spoke on the occasion. Vice-chancellor Dr Syed Akhil Ahmed welcomed. Trustees Dr Habeeb Rahman, PCM Kunhi, Khaleed Bava, Y Farhaad, Y Javed, Y Muhammad Kunhi and others were present on the occasion.
