M'lore: Sharada Festival at Venkataramana Temple Concludes

Mangalore Oct 13: The famous Sharada festival of Sri Venkataramana temple, Car Street, concluded grandly in the city on Saturday October 11.

The idol of Goddess Sharada was immersed in the lake on Saturday on the occasion of ‘ekadashi’. The idol was taken from the temple in a decorated palanquin borne by devotees on their shoulders.

The procession was accompanied by numerous tableaux, bands playing various musical instruments, and groups of dancers performing the ‘huli vesha’. The procession proceeded from Sri Venkataramana Temple, Gaddekeri, behind Canara High School, Navabharat Circle, Amembal Subbarao Pai Road, Dongerkery, New Chitra Theatre, Basavagudy, Chamaragally and back to Car Street. The immersion took place at 7am on Sunday October 12.

    This is the first shara festival started in mangalore 80 years a ago. All sharada festival in around mangalore and south canara and udupi district are mirror image of this festival.
