Moodbidri: Journalists Should Strive for Development—Murugesh Nirani

Moodbidri, Oct 13:
Journalists’ should strive for development in their daily reporting, said Murugesh Nirani, state industries minister, on Saturday October 11. Minister Nirani was speaking at the decennial celebrations of the taluk unit of District Working Journalists’ Association.
 
Journalists play a vital role in a democracy after the legislature, executive, and judiciary.  They will get due respect, if they report in an unbiased and fearless manner, said minister Nirani. 


 
Krishna J Palemar, district-in-charge minister, Dakshina Kannada (DK), inaugurated the programme, and said that differences between full-time reporters and freelancers should cease to exist. The credit should go to authentic reports irrespective of their employment status, he said.
 
MLA Abhayachandra Jain said that journalism students and working journalists should make an effort to understand the work ethics followed by their predecessors. Besides, he urged for the granting of taluk status for Moodbidri at the earliest. Association president Prasanna Hegde presided over the programme.
 
R Ramakrishna, vice-president, DK District Working Journalists’ Association, and eminent columnist Arvind Chokkady were the chief guests on the occasion.
 
Association secretary Naveen presented the annual report.  Prasanna Hegde welcomed the gathering while past president Ganesh Kamath proposed the vote of thanks.  Association vice-president Sitaram Achar compered the programme.
