Udupi: Karanth Memorial to Come Up Soon, B S Yeddyurappa

Journalist and litterateur Ravi Belagere, was given the Shivaram Karanth award by chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Friday October 10. The ceremony was held  at Giliyoor Shambavi Secondary Primary School, near here, organized jointly by Kotatattu gram panchayat and Dr Karanth birth anniversary committee.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Yeddyurappa said that Kanakadas Jayanti will be celebrated with splendour in front of the Vidhan Soudha and Kanakadasa’s native Bada in Haveri district besides at Sri Krishna Math here on November 15.
 
The chief minister announced that the Karanth memorial complex will be built on a one acre plot in Kotatattu gram panchayat at a cost of Rs 1 crore with the assistance of the tourism department.


 
Acknowledging the honour, Belagere said that his happiness was incomparable. He added that the award had increased his sense of social awareness and responsibility. 

Belegere announced that he would display the award prominently in the reading room of his school.
 
State home minister Dr V S Acharya, Halady Srinivas Shetty, MLA Raghupathy Bhat, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, ZP president Raju Poojary, TP president Geetha Prabhu, TP member Jyoti Kunder, ZP member Shankar Kunder, deputy commissioner Hemalata P, Karanth birth anniversary committee honorary president Anand C Kunder, and Kotatattu gram panchayat president Asha, were present on the occasion.
 
MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary presided over the programme. Narendra Kumar Kota welcomed and compered the programme. Kotattatu gram panchayat vice-president Vishwaprakashini proposed vote of thanks.
