Mangalore, Oct 10: A manhole located near Kankanady circle is an example of the shoddy work done by the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC). Daijiworld.com has been updating readers about the pathetic state of this manhole.

In the latest on this front, the lid of the manhole once again caved in a few days ago raising questions about the quality of work done. Despite the busy traffic on this stretch of road and the festive season, the MCC body has not made any effort to have the situation remedied so as to ensure smooth movement of vehicle and pedestrians on this road.

To trace this longstanding saga, we need to rewind to July 30, when the lid of the manhole first caved in. At that time, Naveenchandra, chairman, MCC town planning and development committee, assured that the work would be finished within a day. However, it took more than a month to have it repaired.

Fortunately, no one fell into the manhole. Commuters and pedestrians had to be wary of each step and move for a long time due to the irresponsibility of the civic body.

All what the MCC is waiting for is an innocent to die. Action only follows thereafter. This is the Indian administrative way of response. Remember the cildren going down the abandoned borewells. Who's life is it any way. Are we to be called 'nationalists' PUSK!
