Mangalore, Oct 9 : Every year during the October holidays, "Jeevan Jyothi" camps for the Catholic students of grade 10 have become a standard feature all over the Mangalore diocese. The camp of Pezar deanery students commenced  on October 8, 2008 at the Rosa Mystica Convent, Kinnikambla. Nearly 150 students from 10 parishes in and around Bajpe and Suratkal took part in the camp that will go on till Saturday, October 11.

At the inaugural fuction presided over by Fr John Mendonca, Sr Sharon B S was the chief guest and many of the priests and sisters participated. The atmosphere was very joyful, as the young students are looking forward to three days of fun and learning, comradery and new friendships.

As usual, at the end of the three-day camp, they are sure to say, "sir, can we have some more days extra?".

A note to parents and the neighbours of uneducated parents : Please do not hesitate to send your children to such camps. They are constantly supervised if you are unsure of their activities. Please consult your parish/school representatives if you are still doubtful. The neighbours of parents who are not educated enough to understand the importance of these camps and/or further studies, please try to convince them to send their children to such camps.

Living for yourself and not concerned about your neighbour is being selfish. An advice would not cost you anything but would give a successful future generation to our nation.

Excellent ! Earlier, very little guidance was there for those who completed Tenth Standard. Only advice was that particular percentage earners take up Science, the next group Commerce and the lowest Arts. Students randomly went to this type of education which, we now realize is a plain graduation degree at the end of 5 years of hard study.

I congratulate the authorities who conducted this camp. I wish every school takes up this practice of counseling their qualifiers to take up diversified studies that starts from the PUC itself. As a result, we may have many young specialists in many fields when they finish their graduation.
