Bantwal: Non-payment of Compensation - Taluk Office Building up for Auction!

Bantwal, Oct 4: The building owned by the state revenue department, which houses Bantwal taluk office, is scheduled to be auctioned on November 5 this year. The local Junior Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court has ordered for the auctioning of this building, in connection with the non-payment of compensation to a land owner.

The court bailiff pasted this court order in the notice board of the taluk office on Friday October 3.

As per the Land Reforms Act passed by the state government, Vasantram Shetty, who was residing at Sarapady village, was divested of the agricultural lands he owned in the year 1974, by transferring ownership thereof to tenants. As per the decision of the Land Tribunal, he was to be paid a certain compensation amount. However, the government is said to have paid only Rs 11.50 lac out of the total dues, and the balance payable to him, along with interest as on date, amounts to Rs 16.40 lac. As the government failed to pay the dues even after passing of the decree in the suit filed by Shetty, he applied for execution of the decree. Accordingly, the court has ordered for the auction of the government property. The building with land, located by the side of national highway 48, might fetch much more than the amount due as above.

When contacted, the tahsildar said that the revenue department has already approached the High Court on this issue.
