Kuala Lumpur: KMC Staff and Alumni Excel again Overseas - Bag Silver, Bronze Medals

Kuala Lumpur, Sep 12: A Manipal University KMC (Alumni) trio has bagged the silver and bronze medals from the University Malaysia Sabah (UMS), in the competition held for the 'Innovation and Research-2008' award.

Prof Dilip Murthy, head of the neuroscience unit and professor of physiology, School of Medicine, Prof Urban John D'Souza, head of the postgraduate research unit and professor of physiology, school of medicine along with Prof N Kumaraswamy, head of the community-based medicine and professor of clinical psychology, came out with flying colours in the competition.

Prof Dilip was awarded silver medal for his paper on, 'The Pyramid, a Solution to Stress'.

Prof Urban D'Souza was awarded the bronze medal for his paper on the 'Effective Learning Tool: A Method for Balancing the Brain Cerebral Hemispheric Dominance in Learning'.

Prof Kumaraswamy was awarded bronze medal for his paper on, 'Novel Approach to Reduce Stress.'

In addition to above, Prof Dilip Murthy and  Prof Urban D'Souza were also presented with  the 'Best service' award for academic professional excellence and research in the School of Medicine, UMS while Prof Kumaraswamy was listed in Marquis 'Who is who in the world,' of its silver jubilee edition of 2008.

Prof Dilip who hails from Bangalore, was serving at KMC Manipal for around three decades, Prof Urban D'Souza hails from Udyavar, Udupi and was a faculty in KMC Mangalore for around 15 years while Prof Kumar was serving at KMC Manipal for around 25 years before assuming faculty positions in Malaysia. One may recall here that Prof D'Souza had earlier bagged the Malaysian national award for science and technology.

All the three are highly indebted to their alma mater KMC Manipal and Mangalore, for the excellent academic and research environment provided and nurtured, while they were the faculty members at the departments of physiology and psychiatry there.
