Margao Outline Development Plan scrapped

Margao, Sep 2:  Bowing to pressure from the Locals and agitations spearheaded by the Citizens Welfare Committee, Town and Country Planning Board (TCP) has scrapped its Outline Development Plan 2011, which was prepared for Margao.

City based doctors and businessmen had lent support to this agitation and had demanded the scrapping of ODP.

To resolve this issue the TCP had convened a meeting. This was chaired by Chief Minister Digamber Kamat. The meeting which lasted for several hours, unanimously resolved to send the ODP back to the South Goa Planning Department, as the plan was prepared by them (SGPD).

According to sources, the exercise of preparing a plan will be taken up afresh, considering the recommendations and suggestions made by sub-committees, formulated for the purpose.

Chief Town Planner Morad Ahmed told the media, that the sub-committee constituted by the TCP has suggested many corrections in the plan.

Meanwhile, worried people have expressed a sense of relief and elation over the scrapping of the ODP.
