Udupi, Sep 2: On the first of September, the rain appeared again in the district after a prolonged gap. Farmers, whose crops were facing the prospects of withering, were very happy to witness the rains after a gap of about two weeks. Rain lashed several areas of  Kundapur, Udupi and Karkala taluks on Monday.

Karkala witnessed heavy rains with lightning in the afternoon, while the intensity of the rain increased at night. The rain gods smiled on Kundapur and Udupi taluks in the evening. So far, no untoward incidents or losses to property have been reported.

People who are making elaborate arrangements to celebrate Vinayaka Chaturthi festial falling on Wednesday September 3, are a little worried that the rains if continue, might pose problems for the procession of Lord Ganesh idol and also other festivities connected thereto.

While most of Dakshina Kannada remained dry but for little drizzles here and there, Subrahmanya and neighbouring places in the interiors received good rains. 10 cms of rainfall was received there. Dharmastala, Agumbe etc., recorded a rainfall of two cms each. Mangalore airport received one cm of rainfall.

The meteorological department expects the coast of the state and other hinter lands to receive rains during the next two days.
