Bantwal: Inter-City Bus Goes Amok On NH 48; 15 Injured

Bantwal, Aug 31: An inter-city private bus was plunged beside National Highway (NH) 48, at Purlippady, near Kalladka, here on Saturday August 30 evening.

The bus plying from Mangalore to Puttur was plunged beside NH 48, at Purlippady, on Saturday evening, when the bus driver dangerously tried in vain to overtake an ore laden truck.  The bus driver misjudged the distance between oncoming truck and the ore laden truck to be overtaken, resulted in frantically driving the bus to the edge of road.   However, as the bus was driven in little above the speed limit, it slipped and hit the tree and finally stopped plunging besides the highway, sources informed.



The bus driver Praveen, cleaner Shivappa, and the passengers Balakrishna, Farhan (11), Zarina Farladka (38) all local residents, Tanuja, Anand Poojary, Damodar, Nita, all residents of Parladka – Puttur, Vasant and Madhav residents of Kedila, Gopal, Geetha Harady, Ibrahim Neralakatte, Damodar Baltila, Sujatha Manchi and Jayaraj were injured owing to the mishap.  A few of the injured are admitted at various hospitals and are well on their way of recovery. 

Yet in another incident, an ore laden truck plying from Hospet to New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) skidded beside NH 48 when the overworked truck driver lost control.  

Rural police have registered the case.
