Udupi, Aug 30:
The villagers from Yermal Tenka, Bada and Adamaru staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner's office here on Saturday August 30 against acquiring of land for pipeline laying work for Nagarjuna Thermal Power Plant.

Protesters arrived here on a march from taluk office and submitted memorandum to the district commissioner. The protest was organized by Parisara Samraksana Samiti Yermal.

Protesters complained that KIDB has issued notice to acquire land without any prior notice and this would leave nearly 300 families homeless.

"Udupi Power Corporation will dump its effluences to the sea through pipeline and it will affect traditional fisheries from Hejamady to Kaup. Nearly 5000 families are under threat," memorandum said.

Protesters also said that they will not vacate their land at any cost and threatened intensive protest in the coming days.

MP Manorama Madhwaraj, Sathish Salyan, Balakrishna, Jayashri, Shivaprasad and Sharada Poojari and Leeladhar G Salian were also present.
