Karkala: Convention of Neo-literates, Animators held at Inna

Karkala, Aug 28: Taluk panchayat president Sundar, inaugurated a convention of neo-literates and animators of continuing education programme on Wednesday August 27, at the zilla panchayat higher primary school, Inna, near here.

The convention was jointly organized by the Udupi district literacy committee, taluk continuing education programme, Inna gram panchayat, and Bhargav Trust. Local MLA Gopal Bhandary, speaking on the occasion, said that the undivided Dakshina Kannada district had achieved remarkable progress in the literacy drive in the state, largely due to women who have taken a keen interest in learning.

He said that peace and harmony would reign in society when the number of literates increased as this would enable them to get rid of stigma and superstitions. Udupi zilla panchayat chief executive officer Prasanna Kumar said that the effort of animators will be realized if neo-literates make use of literacy in their everyday life. Neo-literates will be sent on study tours to other districts, to gain first hand information, he added. It was also decided to double the honorarium payable to both animators and their subordinates.

Bhargav Trust president Venkataramana Mucchintaya, hoisted the convention flag.The programme was presided over by Inna gram panchayat president Anand Shetty. Uniforms were distributed to nursery students and various competitions were held.

Inna gram panchayat vice-president Malati, deputy public instruction officer Manjunath, taluk panchayat chief executive officer Rajendra Bekal, Sitaram Hebbar, Laxmikant Rao, and Hebri gram panchayat president Jayakar Poojary, were present on the dais.

Inna gram panchayat secretary M H Shanmukha welcomed the gathering. Taluk co-ordinator Laxman Nayak delivered the keynote address. Vani Upadhya compered the programme while Kusha Moolya proposed vote of thanks.

Gram panchayat president Anand Shetty, presided over the concluding ceremony held on Wednesday evening. Muddanu Sri Mahalingeshwar temple managing trustee I Vishwanath Bhat handed over the flag. APMC member Shankar Amin, block education officer Ramappa Gowda, Sadanand Naik, Sesu Bangera, Prakash Rao, Nagesh Rao, Udayashankar Kamat, Amarnat Shetty, and Praveena Shetty, were present on the occasion.
