Sullia: Kadaba Vs Nelyadi - Race for New Taluk Hots up

Daijiworld Media Network - Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Aug 26: A long-pending demand for carving out Kadaba taluk is pending since decades. Since the last few years, people from Nelyadi and surroundings have come out with the demand for the formation of the new taluk with Nelyadi as its headquarters. They say that Nelyadi is located on the highway and is convenient to reach for the people in need.

This question has been bothering MLA Angara more than anyone else, as he has to appease people from both the areas, which fall under Sullia constituency. The fact that the Kadaba Taluk Formation Committee wanted to include Kokkada and nearby villages, which are under Beltangady taluk now and Nelyadi and nearby places which are in Puttur taluk, in the taluk to be newly-formed, gave an opportunity to these places to voice their support for making Nelyadi as the taluk headquarters as Kadaba is located far away from these places. Initially, everyone was supporting the cause of Kadaba as a new taluk, but with recent developments, a section of the people has tilted towards making Nelyadi their taluk headquarters.

The Taluk Re-organization Committee will be visiting Kadaba and Nelyadi on Tuesday August 26. The committee will be making up its mind after hearing arguments from both the sides, and its decision will be binding on the people. It is difficult to guess as to how far the formation of the new taluk will adversely affect the future prospects of the Sullia MLA.
