Udupi, Aug 26: The District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) sleuths nabbed an inter-state two-wheeler thief, here on Sunday, August 24. He has been identified as Abubakker (50), a resident of Uppulli in Chikmagalur district. The police have also recovered two stolen scooters from his possession.

DCIB police led by sub-inspector Srinivas Raju who were on night patrol at Udyavar, on national highway (NH) 17 intercepted a Honda Matrix scooter driven by Abubakker, and identified the vehicle as a stolen one. On interrogations, Abubakker revealed that he had stolen the scooter from Puttur, in Dakshina Kannada district, during May 2008, with his accomplice Rashid, a resident of Sakleshpur.

He has also revealed that he had stolen another Honda Activa from Manjeshwar, in Kasargod district of Kerala, and ridden it all the way from there and hidden it in a bush in nearby Katpady. The policemen recovered that scooter from the location he divulged.

Abubakekr has been involved in two-wheeler thefts over the past few months, and sold stolen two-wheelers with fake number plates made in a workshop at Hassan. The police also recovered two mobile hand sets from Abubakker which were stored in the boot of the Honda Activa stolen from Manjeshwar. He had been booked in several cases at Hassan, Koppa, Chikmagalur, Mangalore, and the suburban police stations. He was also involved in illegally transporting sandalwood logs in the stolen scooters.

Abubakker has been handed over to the custody of Kaup police and has been remanded to judicial custody till Tuesday, September 9 after he appeared in court on Monday, August 25.

DCIB sub-inspector Srinivas Raj, policemen Damodar Puttur, Narayan Kadri, Mahabala Shetty, Satish Ballal, Dinesh Shetty, Vamana, Ratnakar, Uday Kundar, Pushparaj, and Manohar Udyavar, were involved in this raid which was carried out under the direction of DCIB deputy superintendent in-charge, R Dilip.
