Puttur, Aug 10: Passenger and goods trains running on South Western Railway's (SWR) route between Bangalore and Mangalore have been temporarily cancelled owing to a landslide across the tracks at Edakumeri near Subrahmanya, which occurred on the evening of Sunday, August 10.

A large quantity of loosened soil from the hillock that runs along the rail route, has been dumped on the tracks following heavy rains. SWR officers rushed to the spot along with workmen and track-mounted earthmovers, in an attempt to clear the soil from the tracks, and are working through the night to restore train traffic at the earliest, informed sources.

People from Bangalore who had arrived here for the weekend have been  inconvenienced due to the cancellation of trains. They will now have to rely on  bus services if they are to reach the state capital by Monday morning.

The KSRTC people had taken the passengers on ride when there was problem due to cancellation of Mangalore Bangalore train. They were charging 60 rupees per ticket frompassengers for the special buses arranged. The KSRTC is not running buses to make business but it is a service. And the people had to pay more than 170 rupees above the train fair for sleeper class and 270 when compared to general class. Shame on KSRTC.
