Udupi, Aug 10: The district bar association has urged the state administration to take legal action against the anti-naxal force (ANF) policemen who assaulted the picnicking city lawyers at Srimane Falls, Sringeri, on Saturday, August 9.

Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, president, district bar association, sought the support of the bar associations of Kundapur,  Mangalore, and the state, at a press conference held at the association office on Sunday, August 10.

A case will be filed in a Chikmagalur court against the accused.  Meanwhile, a defamation suit will also  be filed at the district court against Ramadas Gowda, superintendent of police,  for his irresponsible statement on the matter, informed Hegde.

Although the SP, and DSP Harischandra, were at the press conference, the aggrieved lawyers were not in a mood to have a dialogue with them. The lawyers were engaged in a verbal feud with the police officials.

Dinesh Kumar, secretary, bar association, and several other lawyers were also present at the press conference.

Drunk lawyers making fool of themselves in a protected national forest which is Naxal infested. Why blame ANF when lawyers are not taking any responsibility for their actions? Why should one give kid glove treatment to judiciary and lawyers ? They are certainly not above the law? Did they have permission to enter forest? Did they have permit for the alcohol they were carrying in jeep?
