Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Aug 9: The general public as also BJP workers staged a protest in front of Kota police station on Friday August 8, demanding the suspension of the police sub-inspector Manjunath Nayak, who is in-charge of Kota police station, for allegedly abusing and manhandling Kota gram panchayat member Gopal Pai.

It is said that a verbal altercation ensued between the police station in-charge and Pai, when the latter was arrested and brought to the police station on Friday, following which Nayak beat up Pai. Pai was later produced in the court and remanded to judicial custody. The people charged the policeman with settling personal scores against Pai.

The protestors handed over a memorandum to DySP Nagaraj, specifying their demands. The DySP who received the memorandum, promised to take up the issue with higher officers and ensure that justice prevails.

SI Clarifies: Sub-Inspector Manjunath Nayak clarified that Gopal Pai faced several warrant cases and he was to appear in the court for hearings. As he refused to attend the court hearings, he arrested him as per the instructions from our higher authorities, he added.

India will be united as a single country as long as we have police officers like Manjunath Nayak. Law and order is first.
