Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Aug  9: A few thieves, utilizing the golden opportunity created by the absence of family members of a household, entered a house located near Mudarangadi within the Padubidri police station area, by removing roof tiles, and decamped with 14.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments worth about Rs 82,500 on Friday August 8morning. The thieves used a ladder to climb onto the rooftop.

The thieves targetted the house, 'Damodar Kripa' owned by Kamalaksha Hegde Maniyoor, Yellur and stole the gold ornaments after opening almirahs with the help of keys lying in the house. Kamalaksha Hegde had been at his provisions shop while his son and daughter had gone to Udupi. Hegde's wife had left for Perdoor to take part in the 'Chudi' puja ritual there. The theft came to light when Kamalaksha Hegde returned in the afternoon from his shop for lunch.

There are several houses near this building but a big bush located behind the house seems to have helped the thieves to cover up their operations.

A case has been registered by the Padubidri police. Finger print experts, Kaup circle inspector Vinay Naik, Padubidri police station in-charge Mohan Kottary and Shirva police station in-charge N C Ganesh visited the spot.
