Bantwal, Aug 9: A worker engaged in cutting a tree died after the tree he was cutting, directly fell on him on Friday August 8.

Venkappa Belchada (58), the unfortunate victim, was axing down a tree located in the land of Gangadhar Gowda in Kolnad village near here. The rope with which he has fastened the tree to ensure that it does not lean on himself, snapped and the tree fell on him.

He was taken to a hospital with critical injuries but could not be revived.
