Udupi: Samuel Asper Award for Dr M S Valiyatthan

Udupi, Aug 8: The National Research Professor and the first vice-chancellor of Manipal University Prof Maarthanda Varma Shankaran Valiyatthan has been selected for America's Johns Hopkins Organization's Dr Samuel Asper Award in recognition of his contribution to the field of international medical education.

Johns Hopkins organization has established an endowment fund in memory of Dr Asper, who had contributed to the medical field. Prof Valiyatthan's contributions to the medical sector as founder director of Kerala's Shri Chithra Thirunal, has brought him the award, a release from the University said.

He will receive the award at Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association biennial meeting to be held in USA during next year. Prof Valiyatthan has bagged Padmavibhusan and England's Royal College of Surgeon's Hunterian Professorship, including several national and international level awards and honorary doctorates.
