Mangalore, Aug 6: A ten-foot-long horizontal tunnel was discovered from beneath a well which suffered an inward slide at Red Building house near Capitanio, Garadi on Monday August 4. The well caved in on Monday, although there was neither any rain nor speeding gales.

The incident occurred in the noon and no damage has been reported. The owner of the house, Joseph Lobo said that a rented house located nearby the site got vacated, fearing of further slides around the spot, endangering the building.

The sixty-year-old well was 24-feet deep inside and constructed by using black laterite stones. Uppermost portion of the wall of the well for about five feet was built by using red laterite. The well never faced any dearth of water so far, said Lobo.
