New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS): Trinamool Congress MP Dinesh Trivedi on Thursday said former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi are martyrs, and while criticising them, this should be kept in mind.

Participating in a debate on the Budget in Lok Sabha, Trivedi said even though politicians may not agree with them on ideological level, it should not be forgotten that they died for the country.

"How can we forget Rajiv Gandhi gave his life for the country... Indira Gandhi gave her life for this country...," he said.

"Somewhere down the line, the person criticising should also keep in mind we are referring to martyrs".

"We may have differences, we may disagree with the Emergency..." he said.

This comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a blistering attack on the Congress party speaking on issues ranging from dynasty politics, corruption, lax governance, as well as for hasty bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

    I am surprised to read the comments from the readers of Daijiworld. I still remember the day Indira Gandhi was killed. The entire country came to a standstill and the world honored the guts of this lady running a diverse and fragmented country. She was compared to world leaders like Gloomier and Margaret Thatcher. As Indians we should be proud of that fact but are we? can we? No. All that matters to our, once upon a time grate country is, religion, communalism, rape and corruption. Today, our country is governed by (sorry ruled by) Thugs and Murderers! How can we expect to rise above this? I cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. Unless our educated youth rises and brings about a revolution this country will be broken apart. I for one, salute both Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi for they were the real leaders and never hesitated to give their life for the country.

    No, certainly not. But, do you know one thing, they both (Indira & Rajiv) died while serving as Prime Ministers ? What implication does it have on their family ? His immediate kin gets the whole salary till she/he lives. Now, you calculate Sonia Gandi's income (1) that of her husband (2) that of hers own as a Member of Parliament.

    She is world's richest woman for nothing. She lives 100% on nation's expense. Did she plan it that way ? Could she have forfeited and left India in 1991 ? Apply Burnol - nothing change !

    And, our fool PM promised to bring the money she hoarded in Swiss Banks. Promised to jail her within 100 days of his coming to power. Fulfill.. Fulfill the promise now !

    ..what is the meaning of Martyr..Indira Gandhi was killed by her Bodyguard in revenge for sending military inside Golden temple to kill separitist Bindranwale who was supported/nurtured by Congress itself (read any Article about Bindranwale, you will know the truth)..Rajiv gandhi was killed by Tamil LTTE for sending military to Sri lanka to kill Tamil separitist..this misadventure has resulted in thousands of death of soldier in Srlianka unnecessarily..and eventually Rajiv was killed by LTTE..

    Martyrs for wrong reason. Back fired for there wrong move.
    As akali dal is popular in punjab..congress decided to curb the same taken help of sant bindarwale group. Latter on knows what happen is history.
    As america was looking for base in srilanka..our backyard to install some type of radio station to keep.watch on asean countries..our great grand ma started tamilian problem asking for there right.
    Latter on rajiv uncle send army to curb activities and killed many of them.
    It's all congress's creation..for there own gain.

    AF.. Modi was a CM for Gujarat for 2 terms or more , and was elected by the majority of the country purely based on merit. He did not flaunt his surname nor was born in any dynasty. The Mushroom fact you have written here sounds like something from a Rahul Gandhi comedy video. The outcome which is gifted to RG in every state where election is held. Any ways Jaisa Congi leader waisa Congi praja.
