Bantwal, Aug 3: The general public of B C Road town here has decided to raise funds for undertaking conversion of four lane works by selling all the equipments belonging to National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) which are lying beside the road by auction, at the backdrop of NHAI expressed dearth of funds in order to complete conversion of four lane works of National Highway 48.

Accordingly, a banner has been hung up on the highway here to inform all about the auction of the road construction equipments. Interestingly, Friday August 15 Independence Day has been chosen for the auction.

The NHAI has failed to complete the four lane works within the stipulated period. The leading road contractor IRCON, who are entrusted the execution and finishing of four lane works, seems to be engaged in their tasks only for a week or so who are not found on their site in the rest of the month.

Meanwhile, the equipments for the four lane work have been dumped here along the highway which has occupied much of the space in the heart of the town that causes traffic bottlenecks daily.  The pedestrians including passengers were forced to breathe the polluted air during the summer and face hardships walking on ditches and risk of muck being splashed over by the automobiles. The locals who were fed up by the long delays in completion of four lane works, finally decided to sell all the equipments of NHAI to collect money for completing the four lane work!
