Mangalore: Manjanady Locals Protest Transfer of Village Accountant Office

Mangalore, Jul 27: Residents of Manjanady blocked the roads protesting against the transfer of the Office of the Village Accountant, Manjanady Grama Panchayat, Ullal.  

This is reported to be the fourth transfer of the office. The office which was is Deralakatte, was transferred to Urumasage, then back to Deralakatte and has been there since the past eight years in the private building of the Gram panchayat. Complaints of water leakage in the building due to rains, prompted the Tehshildar Raju Mogaveera to order a transfer of the office to the building of the Natekal Revenue Department.  

As per the orders of the Tehshildar, the transfer work began on Thursday morning, July 24. Voicing their fury at the move, the residents of Manjanady blocked the road, badly affecting bus movements.  

The police had to resort to Lathi Charge to drive the protestors away, who continued to block the roads even after the allotted time for the protest was over.
