Mangalore, Jul 27: South Kanara Homeopathic Medical Association (SKHMA), which was formed in 1958, is celebrating its golden jubilee this year. Homeopathy made its appearance in this district almost 150 years ago.

Fr Muller was the first to open a homeopathic dispensary in Kankanady, in 1880. The Fr Muller institution began publishing various books on homeopathic medicine about a century ago. Meanwhile, the homeopathic doctors’ association was formed in 1958 to increase the knowledge of homeopathic doctors and to promote research.

The association has been organizing continued medical education (CME) on the first Sunday of every month, since its inception. Creating awareness about homeopathic medicine, guiding aspiring homeopaths, and conducting free homeopathic camps, are some of the activities conducted regularly by the association.

A function has been organized at Fr Muller Institutions auditorium on Sunday, July 27, to commemorate the golden jubilee of SKHMA. Dr Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Trust, will be present on the occasion. Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of Fr Muller Charitable Institutions, will be the chief guest on the occasion.

A workshop on cancer will also be held wherein Dr Suresh Rao, and Dr Shivaprasad, will present their papers, informed Dr S K Tiwari, president of SKHMA, and organizing secretary Dr Prasannakumar, in a press release.
