Udupi: Anti-Nagarjuna Action Committee Pledges Support to Manorama

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jul 26: Anti-Nagarjuna Action Committee has congratulated MP Manorama Madhwaraj for sticking to her pro-environmental concerns which she has been advocating since long, even during the trust vote in the parliament and announced that it is fully backing her on this issue.

A press statement released by the committee stated that BJP failed to support Manorama, who opposed Nagarjuna Thermal Power Plant for long, in her struggle against the project. During a protest, the government had even arrested and sent her to jail, it recollected.

A few BJP leaders promised to oppose the project during electioneering and changed guard after getting elected. They are now supporting the project and trying to suppress those fighting against it, the committee said.

Committee president Vijay Kumar Hegde in the statement said Manorama, who held the interests of the people of her constituency higher to her own individual interests, is a model politician. The fact that BJP is demanding her resignation makes it clear that the party is backing the project, he said.

If the party brings pressure on Manorama, the committee will reveal names of people who were recipients of monetary benefits from the company and also became ministers, he said. The committee supports her demand for a CBI inquiry into allegations made against her. The committee lends her moral support and will strive against the thermal power project under her leadership, press release stated.

Anna Jathanna, Your comments are best example for the quote "In any democracy half enducated people are more dangerous than uneducated". Have you ever visited Raichur Thermal Power plant/any other coal based power plants area/or heared about the peoples suffering due to those power plants?Do you know how sensitive is DK's evironment?Everybody knows about power problem in India.Having coal based power plant is not just the solution for present power crisis, lots of other alternatives are there for power problem.

Only thing we need leaders and citizens with vision and commitments not just cast/political party biased peoples.Development doesn't mean spoiling irreplaceable environment and poor peoples daily life.People like you should raise voice against the day light looting of public property like ore, granites and forests and spoiling basic infrastructures like bridges and roads. Don't you feel shame to see hell like roads which are destroyed completely by ore ladden lorries? Correct your facts first before blaming somebody who has been raising their voices for the cause of poor people.

Anti-Nagarjuna protests have become a joke with same old faces saying same old thing without any proof. How can one believe people like Vijay Kumar Hegde and Manorama who kept saying there is no power shortage and now we are undergoing six hours of power cut??

They misled the people for the sake of some unknown outside force hell bent on keeping Coastal Karnataka backward. Shame that instead of using her good office Manorama tried to block all and any development project. Compare Manorama to MPs of Andhra and Tamil Nadhu who try their best to get projects into their state and constituency. Here we have Manorama doing the opposite - blocking development.
