I-T searches 130 premises of Joyalukkas jewellery

New Delhi, Jan 10 (PTI): The Income Tax Department today conducted country-wide searches at over 100 stores and other premises belonging to two major south-India based jewellery chains on charges of alleged tax evasion, official sources said.

The action is being carried out against Kerala-based jewellery group Joyalukkas and another firm connected with it.

I-T sleuths are raiding 130 premises of the business houses in the cities of Chennai, Hyderabad, Thrissur and other locations in Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi and West Bengal, I-T sources said.

The action, they said, is aimed at checking alleged tax evasion following demonetisation in the two firms. Tax sleuths detected huge cash deposits and sale figures of gold, diamond and jewellery in their accounts.

The Chennai wing of the department is coordinating the nation-wide action, involving over 100 tax sleuths and a number of police teams, sources said.

    I don't know alukas or what brand, but by seeing catching gold smuglled amount in Mangalore or other airport one thing sure big jewellery s behind those scams.
    Gvt need to use nia or CBI to catch those gold smugglers god fathers.
    Surely they won't do

    if somebody is against the raids, then the only word is pity.
    gold and real estate is the black money favorite spot.
    maybe people do not know that around 3,00,000 jewelers have got notice after demonetisation for illegal practise.

    Suddenly every one here love Joy Alukas!! If they have not done anything wrong, they should be worried.

    I think govt should allow tax benefits to minority organisations. They should be able to avoid tax and Govt should not question them.

    Tax evasion is a crime in India. You are not aware of coz you are not paying any taxes to Indian government. But all the facilities from the government is enjoyed by your family here at other tax payer's expense.

    Disagree totally with your comments that NRIs are enjoying at the cost of other Tax Paying residents. When NRI make remittance that itself is a BIG contribution.

    Explain how does NRI sending money help the government. Only secondary taxes on the money spent by NRI's family benefits government.
    Explain me how does remittance to one's bank account directly profits the government of India.

    Food for thought.. Hindus voting for BJP are right wings so Minorities voting Congress should be called Right wings. Minorities voting BJP should be called Left wings and hindus voting Congress left wings. Because the ideology behind voting are same.!!!???
