Udupi: Truck Plunges into Gorge at Agumbe Ghat Killing Two

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jul 22: It is learnt that two persons died after a Canter truck they were travelling in, plunged into an abysmal void on the ninth bend on the Agumbe ghat in the early hours on Monday July 21.

Nazir (32) from Bhadravati and his friend Puttaraju (45) from Bhadravati Bommanakatte lost their lives in the accident. The cleaner of the vehicle is learnt to have got down to attend to nature's call, when the vehicle suddenly started moving and plunged deep down the void. The vehicle fell about 150 feet down the road while the bodies which got entangled in the trees were recovered by the Agumbe police by Monday afternoon, with the help of forest department staff.

Night travel on this ghat road is banned but vehicles continue to ply by reportedly entering into unholy understanding with the personnel manning the forest gate. Agumbe circle inspector Khaja Saheb and other personnel have visited the accident spot and initiated further action.
