M'lore: Yuva Sammelan Brings Together Parish Youth of ICYM Bajpe

Mangalore, Jul 21: Parish youth belonging to the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of St Joseph’s Church, Bajpe, gathered at the church auditorium recently, as part of a ‘Yuva Sammelan’.

Fr Mathias Pereira, parish priest of the church, presided over the inaugural ceremony. In his inaugural address, he advised the youth to utilize their youthful energies for constructive purposes and laid stress on living life in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. Br Theo was the chief guest present on the occasion.


Fr Anil D’Silva, assistant parish priest, Kevin D’Souza, vice-president of ICYM, Sylvester D’Souza, vice-president of parish council, Sr Reena, animator of ICYM, Bajpe, were present on the dais.

Eugene D’Cunha, resource person, outlined the difficulties faced by youth in this jet set age and suggested possible solutions. He also enlightened the youth on becoming effective leaders in society. 

Kevin D’Souza talked about the leadership qualities which can take ICYM units to national level and stressed the need for reading ‘Amcho Yuvak’, monthly bulletin, published by Genesis Publications. Konkani writer, orator, and president of Konkani Writers Forum, Maccha Milar, is behind this magazine.

The other resource persons, Shankar Shetty, and Lydia D’Souza, offered information on consumer rights. ‘Gurkars’ of all wards were honored with a rose. Derrick Pinto, president of ICYM, Bajpe, welcomed the gathering while Rajesh Mascarenhas, secretary, proposed the vote of thanks. Santhosh Mascarenhas, compered the programme.
