B'lore: Power Situation Grim - More Unscheduled Power Cuts on Anvil

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Jul 19: A cabinet sub-committee headed by energy minister K S Eshwarappa met in the capital on Friday July 18, to disuss worsening power situation in the state and to consider ways and means to handle it.

Sources revealed, that the state will face additional unscheduled load sheddings in the coming weeks, as the shortfall of elecltricity faced by the state is in excess of 2,000 mega watts.

The state's share from the central power grid has also been slashed by 100 mega watts. This has aggravated the already serious power situation in the state.

The meeting decided to buy power from neighbouring states for managing the situation. It also decided to depute a delegation to the union government, for pressurising it not to enforce cuts in the state's share from the central grid and also to supply additional power to the state which is faced with a huge shortage in rainfall and depleting reservoirs, undermining power generation in hydel power plants.

Good Indian people, how long we need to rely on weather and politics ? Think ahead and ensure we get nuclear energy urgently. Ideologies and political manipulations will not bring electricity to the nation. Indians stand up for this generation and future as well.

Even if the power situation is grim, BJP will not support the Indo-US nuclear deal. Who cares for India? Promises will be made only before the election, not after. Provision is made in the budget to provide free electricity to the farmers, but nobody knows from where the electricity will come. For me, if anyone opposes the nuclear deal is the enemy of the country. And I predict that will be the end of that political party. Mr. PM, please do not give-up, if the Govt. falls for the sake of this good cause, let it fall.

The people of this country will not forgive those enemies. This govt. will emerge with full power. Dear elected Representatives, what is important now, your party or your country. If your country is important for you, defy your party orders and support your country.

My fellow citizens, please come up strongly and write your views wherever possible and support your country and condemn those who oppose this Indo-US nuclear deal. Our beloved Former President supports this deal. Who is more knowledgeable than this nuclear scientist?
