Mangalore: Noted Fishermen Leader Yadav Kanchan Passes Away

Mangalore, Jul 17: Yadav Kanchan (70), a widely respected leader of the fishermen, breathed his last after a brief illness, at a private hospital in the city on Wednesday July 16.

He was the founder member of Baikampady Students Union, president of the erstwhile Panambur gram panchayat and president of the Regional Country Boat Fishermen’s Association. He was in the forefront of a struggle launched for the survival of country boat fishing. He also had functioned as the president of Baikampady Fishermen's Cooperative Society.

Kanchan is survived by wife and two daughters. The fishermen of the New Mangalore port paid their respects to the departed soul by suspending country boat fishing for a day on Wednesday. Cremation will take place on Thursday.
