Kundapur, Jul 17: People belonging to scheduled communities and activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike recently staged a protest in the municipality premises, against the move of the municipality in hiking water rates in the town.

Monthly charges for the supply of drinking water were recently raised to Rs 100 per family and this provoked a strong resentment among the citizens of towns. The participants in the protest rally urged the chief officer to bring down the monthly rate to Rs 50 with a provision for levying additional charges in proportion to the quantity utilized, over and above a minimum quantity. Congress Councilors of the town municipality were present on the occasion in support of this demand.
