Bantwal, Jul 15: The driver of a tanker and also it's cleaner died after their tanker hit a tree at Budoli in Peraje village on national highway No.48.

In the early hours on Monday July 14, the tanker deviated to the right of the road and plunged into a 12 feet gorge before coming to a stop after hitting a tree. The deceased have been identified as driver P B Krishnappa (45) and cleaner Nanda(23), both from Tumkur. The tanker was empty and was moving at great speed from Bangalore to Mangalore. It is thought, that the driver was either feeling sleepy or trying to overtake a vehicle when the accident occured.

Due to the impact of the collision,the cabin of the tanker was crushed, leading to the instant death of the two. Vittal sub inspector of police Umesh Uppalige and staff shifted the bodies to the mortuary of Vittal community hospital and registered a case. The bodies, stuck inside the mangled cabin, had to be retrieved by using two JCBs.
