Mangalore, Jul 12: The railway staff in the city staged a protest at the Mangalore Central railway station on Friday July 11, urging for the implementation of the recommendations of sixth Pay Commission.

The protest was held as part of nation-wide protest, call for which was given by the All India Railway Federation. Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) had organized the protest in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Anand, SRMU secretary, said that the cost of the essential commodities has gone up owing to the spiraling inflation in the country. C and D grade railway employees are have been hard hit by the rising prices and they find it difficult to manage finances and maintain their families. The union government should consider the miserable situation the railway men are in, and implement the recommendations of sixth Pay Commission immediately, he urged.

The government has been urged to fulfill the demands of the railway employees by July 15, failing which stronger protests will be staged across the country, he cautioned.

The protestors held a procession inside the railway complex and shouted slogans against the union government.

I am working as a Sr.Loco Inspector in ECoR at Bhubaneswar. I appreciate the demand. The pay structure of Loco Inspectors as proposed by the commission is too harassing and it needs a review before implementation.
